New Namica Neo Toyko
Last year a new Japanese start-up, Namica, made the rounds by dropping their upcoming watch on every outlet that would review it. Jody was one of a few Youtubers that featured it. I had been on the lookout for a purple dial and this one was intriguing given the unique colorway and design.
At the time, I put it back of my mind because I refuse to fund any Kickstarter from any brand or artist I do not know. I figured I would eventually be able to grab it on ebay for cost, if not less, which is exactly what happened last week.
Positives:
- The dial is just cool. Certainly will not run into something else like this on the street or in the office. It has a surprising amount of detail for a watch of this price.
- Lume - So cool
- The NH38 is nothing special, but given watches at this price point at least they did not put a 35 or 36 with a phantom date. It came regulated to a few seconds. Downside, the rotor is a bit loud.
- Bezel action feels good, no play in this sample.
Opportunities:
- Bracelet - Did not even bother sizing. The articulation is not great, lots of play between links, and what one would expect for $400. Can definitely tell where the costs went and it was not here. Plus side is it uses screws to adjust if I did decide to size it. Pending delivery of a curved FKM rubber strap with gridlock-like clasp.
- Packaging - Granted I picked it up on eBay, the watch was still new, fully stickered in the original shipping box. The watch was loose inside the pouch and if not for the stickers, I can totally see how this could have been scratched to hell on the cheap zipper.
Overall, a unique and inexpensive watch that is a good first step into a sea of bargain upstarts.

If it was 9015 powered with a date I'd likely have one.
I hate extra thickness for an inferior movement, and I hate no date... if brands want me to part with hundreds of dollars, I have expectations.

Awesome! Both of those are cool, but I have enough blue and white watches, so the purple stood out. That purple Van Banner you posted also looks nice.
