Micro Tournament Round 1 Day 4: Unimatic Vs. Squale

Rules: • Voting is based on the overall brand, not the individual model or sample photo. • There are no rules on how you should choose, but you are welcome to civilly debate quality, value, heritage, etc. • Voters are encouraged to look at the hashtags for threads on individual brands or visit their sites. • Poll closes apx 11PM ET 3/15. • Be respectful of all the brands and members, even if the vote does not go your way. This is meant to be lighthearted fun to raise awareness of 64 microbrands. • Ties will go to the brand with the most unique user-owned photos of their watch on this thread. Good luck and have fun! Well I have a new watch on my list 😅

It kinda of is my dream diver, the price is just a bit high for the value I think ...

·

A tough first round for us Unimatic fans!

·

Squale seems more popular, and I like their watches, but it’s Unimatic for me. Very distinct, clear designs, at great prices. Lots of value for a watch that will look great for a long time I reckon.

·

Toughest round thus far! Both deserves to go way further in the competition. I had to go Squale as I am waiting for my TGV special edition but it’s a flip of a coin really. I am a bit surprised to see Squale on this competition really. In many ways they do not feel « micro-brand » to me. Oh well :)

Agreed - I also like Squale, so I am pleased to see them here for the publicity / discussion and they are certainly not big, but I would tend to think of them as an independent rather than a micro. All good fun but I will be sorry to see Unimatic go out so fast.

Squale is a ridiculous watch company. They make nine different models and everyone is a dive watch. I have to vote Unimatic in this round due to Squale's lack of diversification.

·

I'll vote for just about any brand vs. a brand that only makes dive watches. Ugh.

·

It's shocking how many collectors give Squale a free pass for its Rolex clones

·

Squale's a microbrand?

·

Finally an easy one for me, I love my Squale. I took a look at Uni and they're about as generic as a watch can be. Admittedly, I haven't handled one and might feel different if I had. Still, Squale's history adds to its panache, it's just a great, underappreciated brand. I'd take this one over a stack of Unis.

Neither brand excites me, so I almost didn't vote. Divers don't excite me. But I gave it to Unimatic, since at least they're trying to do something new and different with the same old diver formula.

·

I have a unimatic but out the 2 Squale is the better one. Love the Unimatic design language but the quality is lacking considering their price tags

Unimatics are too big for me, so I would probably not wear one, but at least they look good.

Can't say that for any Squale given that I find their logo to be the ugliest I have seen on any watch, which ruin all of their watches for me, so Unimatic is my pick.

Squale 🤌🏻

·

Poll closed for this matchup. Congratulations to Squale.

I didn't vote as I could not choose between them. It happens.
