Micro Tournament Round 1 Day 1: Squale vs Ikepod

Basic rules: - Voting is based on the overall brand, not the individual model or sample photo. - There are no rules on how you should choose, but you are welcome to civilly debate quality, value, heritage, etc. - Voters are encouraged to look at the hashtags for threads on individual brands or visit their sites. - Poll closes apx 11PM ET 6/22. - Be respectful of all the brands and members, even if the vote does not go your way. This is meant to be lighthearted fun to raise awareness of 32 microbrands. - Ties will go to the brand with the most unique user-owned photos of their watch. - Good luck and have fun!

Ikepod is the one brand that did not have any other mentions on WC, which is a shame. I know it is odd looking, but hear me out on this legendary watch (if you did not know); It was designed by renowed designer Marc Newson and the design was so influential, Jony Ive brought Newson into Apple to help design the Apple Watch. The Ikepod was the first to use the now-famous loop strap system that Apple uses with all its watches. Win or lose, there are few brands in the mix of this Tourny that will have the legacy of Ikepod. Anyone who collects historically significant timepieces should have one on their list/in their box.

Hi this is CL from Ikepod, thanks guys, I discover watch crunch today with this tournament.  yes strong legacy and also ups and down, I relaunched the brand on Kickstarter in 2018 and since 2019 the brand is back with watches from CHF 650 to 1500. The Seapod designed by Fabrice Gonet is our best seller.  So many great micro-brands in the contest, "que le meilleur gagne" as we say in French.

Ikepod are definitely interesting and fun, but I’m a traditionalist at heart so Squale for me. Sorry @Ikepod 🫣

Ikepod gets this round, nearly by default.

I can’t tolerate Squale putting their name twice with two separate logos on the dial.  And the fish logo itself is a giant turn off.  That’s a case back emblem at best, not for the dial.

I even know the backstory of why they do it that way but it’s still a deal breaker for me.

Ikepod has an interesting design language.  It’s more my wife’s style than mine.

Poll closed for the tournament. Congratulations Squale!

Ikepod also has my favorite crown.
