This was a wonderful gift, a super addition to my collection, and having just touched bases with the wishes-to-remain-anonymous donor, and remembering back in 2014, when this wonder arrived, it seemed appropriate to say thanks again!

And it came complete with spectacular coffee!! (Now long gone and fondly remembered.)

And a worthwhile rabbit hole, for more details on the model and its historic context.

The best thing about horology is the people👍 The donor asked that credit be given the Watchlords forum--and I'm happy to do that! The folks there are friends.

Absolutely wonderful! What a gorgeous dial! And it came with a coffin-link bracelet too!? I’ve been pointing to the Nivada Grenchen revival on this site over and over again as people ask for recommendations because I love the vintage watches and the reissues that they are now offering, but I had no idea that they were sold as Croton’s in the US. It’s also nice to see some of the old packaging to verify that the new packaging pays homage to that too. Amen to this: “The best thing about horology is the people👍”

O.  M.  G.  That should be in a museum!

You lucky sod!!!

·

Ron, absolutly FANTASTIC 🤩!

You have the whole set 😀🙌. The dial looks like it's either raining or shooting stars. Great detail on that piece. Nivada always had a great sense of quirky style 👍😎.

Wow, that’s fantastic!

I love watches with stories behind them and that is an amazing story! Thank you for sharing this with us! Such an unassuming little watch to look at but it my perception of it shifted when you realise the history and see the marketing material from the time!

thank you!

·

I love these; the dial is superb and the back story is cool. One day I may be lucky enough to pick one up.

So, the thought was that Nivada sounded too much like Movado to American ears so Croton became the U.S. Brand.

That is so cool! Amazing piece and especially with the full set. Huge fan of Nivada Grenchen/Croton. Truly a historic piece of mid-century horology.

I will have to post my next "Let's Talk About..." piece for Nivada Grenchen/Croton. Such a great brand(s) and the revival watches are also excellent.
