Diver.

I don't dive.

ยท

Diver. Reason being kids and pets as water related activities are a constant (bathing, swimming, washing, etc.) + timing on the bezel is really useful.

ยท

The timing bezel of a diver is by far the most useful for me.

ยท

Of the three the dive watch is the least useful. Divers don't use mechanical dive watch anymore. They use dive computer and for backup they use digital watches. Ironically mechanical dive watch is the most popular of the three on the list by far.

I personally use chronograph the most. Timing my activities. Stop watch and countdown timer are the two functions I use daily on my g-shock.

I find a timing bezel more convenient for timing than a chronograph, as there is nothing I need timed to the second that isn't better timed by a digital device(phone, computer, digital watch).

Okay so I voted for GMT, but I think right now the most useful to me is diver, because therapeutically fiddling with the bezel to work out tension is the only thing keeping me from smacking my coworker in the face. ๐Ÿ™

I just saw a GS Spring Drive Chronograph GMT. ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿคฏ The movement is made up of more than 400 individual parts and is the most accurate spring driven Chronograph movement in existence. Theyโ€™re a bit big for my wrist but theyโ€™re a technological powerhouse on the wrist. I wish theyโ€™d make them thinner and a a few mm less in diameter.

Haha yeah I want another poll for those who said diver . . . I get that a lot of our decisions are based on aesthetics, but itโ€™s still ridiculous and hilarious

ยท

Divers have the potential to have the less cluttered dial.

ยท

I'm a bit confused by people who don't dive but choose diver because of the water resistance. Chronographs and GMTs often feature 10 ATM of WR (more than enough for any casual usage), plus offer additional functionality beyond telling the time. What am I missing?

ยท

None of these. Number 1 would be a flieger, followed by no 2 field.

Does GMT actually count as a tool watch? The GMT function is often randomly added to a watch type.

ยท

Diver. Like most here, I don't dive for work. LoL.

ยท

I vote for GMT because it's probably the most usefull of the 3 on a daily basis.

I do some diving, but not on a regular basis (once every 2-3years) and I don't need a diver's watch to go into a pool. I've never been a huge fan of the typical Diver's archetype looks.

I almost never used my chronographs to actually chrono something.

I never owned a GMT, but I do some travel for my work, and I don't have any problems reading a 24hr clock(I know some people who don't understand what time 13:00 is). So on a regular basis it's the one I have the more chances to uses it.

Heard this same question voiced a few times. Will attempt answers.

I guess it comes down to jobs and hobbies? I can explain well for myself. Got tons of divers and no GMTs or Chronos and I'm not currently not a diver ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Re: GMTs

If you work with people across the world a few times a day it's probably super useful to have a GMT. If you travel constantly for work, or you are super rich and travel a lot for fun: GMT!

I travel between time zones maybe 1x per year? and have no need for it at work - so a GMT is kind of a waste, it's thicker, and often looks cluttered to me.

Re: chronos.

Also usually thicker and cluttered. At work I have a digital timer we use intermittently right in front of me (part of the machine I'm using) and would never use a watch. Also, my only ever chrono leaked seawater once when I swam with it (it was rated for 100m).

As ocean sports are a hobby of mine and seawater utterly kills a watch movement, I want a BIG safety margin and will not trust a push pull crown. And the timing bezel is useful sometimes for random stuff like cooking or timing my daughters homework.. etc, . Nothing that needs tracking seconds and I can just activate it instantly on my wrist. A 'good enough' timer that creates no hole in the case ๐Ÿ˜Š

So while I don't scuba dive anymore, I might dive down 10 feet to get a dropped item from my kayak (yes!) or get catapulted on a windsurfer on a gusty day (yes) or sprint swim some 50m intervals in a mountain lake on a break during a hike in the summer (yup, pic below!).

Divers are my bag, baby.

Wrist shot! (seconds before diving in)

Happily didn't drop phone here. it was closer to land about 45 minutes later, in about 8 to 10 feet.

I like the GMT because my work, family, and friends are scattered across several time zones. That said, I don't even own a GMT because I can't find one that I really want yet. Maybe with the new Seiko movements, there will be more options from microbrands soon.

Diver all the way!

ยท

Diver, great chronograph pictured though! Going to check it out as ive been eyeing a panda!

ยท

I use a chronograph or stopwatch on a daily basis to time my coffee (manual infusion), so it's a must for me! I could do it with my phone, but I have genuine fun doing it with a watch. So much so that I almost don't wear my watches without a chrono anymore...

Thank you for the story ๐Ÿ˜‰We're using the TMI VH31 movement from Seiko in many of our watches. You can check the last one out here! ๐Ÿ‘€

Diver. Higher levels of water resistance usually means higher levels of overall durability. I like to wear my watches while I work out, hike, hunt, swim, during any weather conditions, ectโ€ฆ

ยท

I must say I use a timing bezel more than I use a chronograph

ยท

Come on you diver people, how many of you even wear it in the shower?

ยท

Like my divers but If I'm going be a little tough on my watch and need to time some boiling eggs. The Chronograph is my go to!

ยท

It used to be GMT's when I would travel a lot but now its all about chronos for me
