How many watches do you purchase in a year?

Obviously This varies depending on price for many people but whats a good number of watches to purchase in a year?

I was horrible this year … bought about 30 … in all fairness they are allover the price spectrum … but yeah … I’ve got a problem for sure

·

10 for me, but certainly wanted more.  Let's see what 2023 brings!

·

You won't get me to admit that number without serious coercion.

·

Purchased 10, which has been about my average for the past 5 years.

But, returned one for refund (Chris Ward C63 Sealander GMT) and one won’t be delivered till next year (Baltic MR01).  Two were gifts for family members. So added 6 to the collection.

In my defense the collection is smaller now than a year ago though due to gifting about a dozen watches to family members.

My goal this year is to continue to shrink/refine the collection by selling and or gifting  some more watches and limiting purchases to one or two for the year. I’m hopefull bu not optimistic I’ll succeed. 😬

·

My goal is one or none per year moving forward.

Bought 20 this year

·

Around 25 this year.

Same sentiment start acquiring 2-3 per year.

Good luck with that!

11 here. I think I want to save for more expensive watches on my list. Maybe here and there build some. We'll see? 🤔

·

35+ watches bought this year (and that’s excluding auction job lots) - thats bad isn’t it.. I’d like to hope I’ll sell way more than I buy next year. Ideally buying none (or perhaps if I get a call from the Rolex AD..)

Me too

It’s a horrible horrible problem

I finally started getting serious about collecting this year… I had 5 crappy watches and 1 decent watch previously (gave 2 crappy watches away)… so I acquired 13 in total this year… 2 were gifts, 1 sold to a family member, 1 returned, 4 sold, 1 was a family heirloom inherited, and 4 are still in my collection (1 will be a keeper for life, but the other 3 could go for something else). I’ve learned a lot this year about the beauty of this hobby, plus the styles I like to wear, how/where to buy and sell, etc. However, I am hopeful to slow down a bit now that I’m refining what I like. So my goal would be for less than half next year... maybe only 6 new acquisitions next year? Happy New Year everyone!

I only bought 2, but acquired another 17 as gifts.

Good luck with that!

You aren't wrong.

3 or 4, it actually takes me a lot of time to decide to buy a watch.

·

1-2 is the aim, looking to acquire increasingly upscale and fill out a rounded collection: THE dress watch, THE chrono, etc. I've been collecting seriously for about 7 years and have so far not sold, swapped or gifted anything I've acquired as I tend to pull the trigger only after months of deliberation. The collection is around a dozen 'serious' watches (elastic term, I know) so I can see selling some to boost funds for 'better' watches that would otherwise be out of my price range.

·

Too many to keep track of, (Mostly Timex).  Now that my Marlin (Peanuts x) and Q (All colorways) is complete, I am done with my collection.  I think 90 is enough.  lol

·

I get 1 or less per year and sell at least that many. I’m at 11 watches now and want to get to 7-8 eventually while upgrading my collection along the way.

·

Two things.

  1. The correct number of watches in a collection is n+1, where n represents the amount of watches in your current collection.
  2. Since July of 2020, I’ve purchased an average of one watch every 2.3 weeks. It has been pretty bad. I “think” I’m slowing down, but then I keep finding new watches to love. Also, I buy and hold.

Smart. I should take your advice and stop buying so many good watches and save for the Great watches!

Since 2015, I've limited myself to buying one watch each year.

Sometimes I do a lot of research and take the decision very seriously. Sometimes it's an impulse purchase... But I know I've got to really want it, since I have to wait until the next year to scratch the itch again.

I jumped on the new Tudor Ranger in 2022.

I actually have no idea what I'll go for this year. I have a trip to Paris planned, to celebrate my 20 year wedding anniversary. So I think I'll leave myself open to picking up something there, to mark the occasion.

·

I'll just leave this here....

I brought 25 watches this year.  Even my collecting friends say that I have a problem and lucky still be to married.  Lol.  This year, I have try to limit it down to 5.

·

I am too afraid to find out...

·

I limit myself to only 1 a year!

·

Somewhere around 10, mostly Seikos and Gshocks.

·

it actually depends on how many I sell. Im trying real hard to get the collection down to ten..but it seems every time I sell on I end up buying two..LOL..there is a few in the winders that did not make this photo but I'm really trying to get rid of a few..

First year of collecting and heres mine

I reduce my rate of purchasing by not allowing myself to buy a watch until I've consistently wanted it for at least three months. That discipline has served me well because I haven't regretted any purchases.

That rule doesn't apply to one-time like the Raketa I picked up for 70 € at an outdoor market in Kiev end of 2021.

I bought around 60 watches in 7 years, so that’s about 8,5 watches a year. But to be honoust, 2023 is going to be a bad watch year for me. Life is getting really expensive here, so this year I’m happy when I buy about 4 watches.
